Paul’s Story

Case Studies: Paul’s Story

Position: QSE Advisor
Location: Glasgow, Scotland

It feels fantastic to be part of Energetics’ exciting expansion across the UK

As one of Energetics’ newest employees, Paul joined the business in September 2014. Prior to being recruited, he was working in a role which didn’t utilise his qualifications and he was faced with no room for career progression. Having gained all the qualifications for a Health & Safety (H&S) role, Paul posted his availability as an H&S professional on an online H&S forum, when he was subsequently approached by Energetics to attend an interview.

marksIt was very frustrating having all the qualifications and being asked for ‘experience’, but it was only Energetics that gave me the chance to gain the experience to support my academic knowledge.”

Paul came to Energetics as a graduate member of the Institute of Health & Safety with a Diploma, and continues

marksHaving the qualifications has helped me in my role as QSE, but as I’d come from the Facilities Management sector, not having Multi-Utility sector experience was a bit daunting, however the hands-on element of the job and guidance from colleagues has been very rewarding.”

Having only been with Energetics for a short time, Paul is still finding his feet but is thoroughly enjoying the job as Quality, Safety & Environmental Advisor. He plans his own diary with some days at the office in Hamilton, some days at the depot nearby, but most days on projects across central Scotland conducting health and safety inductions, auditing the site team, and training on health and safety issues. Paul comments

marksThere is a lot of trust and freedom with the role which I find highly motivating. There are a lot of new projects as part of the business’s exciting growth and I am looking forward to the future opportunities!”

On recruiting Paul to the QSE team, one of Energetics’ Executive Team concludes:

marksEven if you don’t have direct sector experience, don’t hold back from applying for a role with Energetics, as we believe it’s a positive thing to bring a fresh approach to the business.”
